COUNTRY PARKS
There are four country parks within the immediate vicinity :
Pen-y-Fan Country Park, Cwmcarn Forest Drive, Penallta and Sirhowy Valley Country Parks.
SIGHTSEEING
We have excellent road communications via the A467, which connects directly to the M4 motorway at NEWPORT (13 miles), the historic CAERPHILLY CASTLE is on our doorstep and we are within easy reach of the Welsh capital, CARDIFF. (15 miles)
The BRECON BEACONS National Park is a 30 minute car journey away, as are the picturesque WYE VALLEY and the holiday resort of BARRY ISLAND with the beautiful GOWER PENINSULA less than an hour away.
CULTURE
Culture vultures can enjoy the BBC NATIONAL ORCHESTRA OF WALES, the world famous WELSH NATIONAL OPERA COMPANY and some of the best theatres outside of the West End, most notably the spectacular WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE in Cardiff.
If you are lucky you may even get to see the NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD OF WALES when it visits the area.
Be sure to visit the NATIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM OF WELSH LIFE at St Fagans, which is one of Europe’s foremost open-air museums and Wales’s most popular heritage attraction.
SPORT
Golfers are well catered for, with four courses within three miles of the hotel : Oakdale and Blackwood (9 holes), & Bargoed and Bryn Meadows (18 holes)
The CELTIC MANOR RESORT, home of the 2010 Ryder Cup is just a short car journey away.
Other local activities include tennis, shooting, fishing, mountain biking and walking trails, while there is no better place in the world to watch a game of rugby than at the MILLENNIUM STADIUM. There is a state of the art sports facility complete with international-standard athletics track & field stadium at nearby CWMBRAN.
